Pendant alarms for frailty, tremors, neurological conditions

Most pendant alarm buttons, whether worn as a pendant or as a wristband are designed to be easy to press. However for the frail elderly or people with limited dexterity or neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease, the strength and co-ordination needed to trigger a standard pendant alarm is sometimes not enough. An Easy Press adapter allows an emergency call to be made to a 24-hour response centre by people with these types of conditions, who might not otherwise be able to call for help in an emergency.

Easy Press adapters can be fixed on the armrest of a wheelchair or armchair as is shown in the short video clip below. They can also be attached to the side of a table or worn as a pendant.

The adapter is made from a slim transparent plastic which simply attaches over a pendant alarm. But because the Easy Press adapter is larger than a standard pendant button and uses leverage, it requires less co-ordination and pressure to activate the emergency call.

What may not come across clearly by looking at the Easy Press adapter is just how little force is required to activate it. Much less effort is needed as compared with a standard pendant alarm button.

Another benefit of having the Easy Press adapter is that it can often be used to answer incoming telephone calls, allowing a hands free telephone conversation through the telecare base unit. However, this will be dependent on the make/model of your telecare base unit, so always check this with your telecare pendant alarm supplier first.

The Easy Press adapter pictured at the top of the page fits over the Bosch TX Transmitter alarm button. It is available from our Sponsor TASK Community Care. Other makes are also available for different types of pendant alarms.
