Key Safe

key safe for front door

A key-safe for outside your home is a metal box which can be secured outside your house at your front or back door. Your keys are placed inside and can only be retrieved by someone who knows the correct code. You decide who to give the code to and you can change it as often as you like.

If you provide the key-safe code to your telecare monitoring centre, they can give it to the emergency services if they need emergency access to your home. For instance, if you have pressed your personal alarm button because you have fallen and are unable to open the front door

Why choose a monitored key-safe?

Some makes/models of key safes are more secure than others. Regardless of the type you choose, a monitored key safe can add extra security and peace of mind. If your key safe is monitored it will connect by radio signal to your telecare two-way speech unit in the same way as other telecare equipment. An alert will then be triggered to a 24/7 monitoring centre if anyone attempts to tamper with it. Monitoring centre operators can then notify you or contact someone on your behalf.

A key safe can be a suitable alternative to having multiple copies of your house keys cut. For example, if you have carers or home-helps visiting each day. Also it means that if you cancel or change the service, you can easily change the code. If your key safe is monitored, then changing the code can often be done remotely for you, directly from the monitoring centre (i.e. without you having to do reprogram the key safe).
